The physical bakery has been around for decades. Located in its early years on West Seventh Street in St. Paul, it was known as Custom Bakery until current ownership purchased the bakery in 1995. Saint Agnes Baking Co. is named after Agnes Rod, owner Gary Sande’s grandmother. Rod’s husband died in the WWII, and to support the family in rural Iowa, she took a job as a school cook, a position she held for 20 years—and along the way she became a master baker.
The bakery outgrew its West Seventh Street building and moved to its current location on Olive Street in 2003, and continued to expand its baked product lines, all hand-made, with no preservatives, and not frozen.
