Even though the Super Bowl was a wash out this year, our Super Bowl Retail sure wasn’t. We sold out most of our product at a record clip so we really need to thank you guys for making that event such a success.
For those of you who will be following the Olympics, did you know I was working in Sochi in 2008 as the Russians were preparing to submit their bid to the Olympic committee? The Black Sea is gorgeous, and although much of the media has taken issue with some of the facilities being incomplete, I hope they cut our host some slack. This site is in a remote part of the world. I think the lack of luxury would make the event charming.
I have always loved Russia and its history, so much in fact that the StarTribune recently let me write a review of a book that focused on Russian cuisine. When the story hit the streets, I immediately received an opportunity to teach Russian cooking classes for the Edina Community Education. Cheryl Gunness was really excited to put some eastern European options on their menu.
Although the offer was tempting, I knew I had to give the first crack to Gary Krasner (Executive Chef at Moscow on the Hill). Over the years many people in the know have called Gary the best Russian Chef in the Midwest. I usually correct that statement by informing them he’s simply one of the best Chefs…PERIOD!
This guy was born in Belarus and then later moved to Israel where he worked in numerous French restaurants.
If you want to eat the same things that are being served in Sochi, you really need to get over to Moscow on the Hill (Selby Avenue St Paul), or indulge yourself with one (or all) of these fantastic classes.
